The business experienced strong growth ›

The extremely good year of 2017 for the customers of the Port of Helsinki Ltd was reflected in the company’s financial figures. The turnover of the Port of Helsinki was 95.0 million euros (+5.9%).

Passenger traffic

The highest passenger numbers in Europe ›

Helsinki became the busiest passenger port in Europe with 12.3 million passengers. The number went up by 2.4% from the previous year. The Helsinki-Tallinn route in particular continues to grow.

Cargo Traffic

Fast increase in the traffic flow ›

In 2017, the Port of Helsinki became the number one general port for international cargo traffic in Finland. The total tonnage of international cargo traffic handled was 14 million tonnes, +14.3% compared to previous year.

Passenger traffic

West Terminal 2 open ›

The West Terminal project has been the most significant investment in recent years for the Port of Helsinki. The harbour complex has proven functional and will continue to serve fast liner traffic far into the future. The new terminal was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.

Cargo Traffic

Pulp exports speedy kick-off ›

2017 was a year of a business launch for the Port of Helsinki. The investments necessary for transporting bioproducts from Äänekoski’s new mill were completed, and the transports began as planned in August.

The frequency of occupational accidents to a good level ›

The total number of person-years worked was 158. Safe work methods were adopted in a systematic way. Simultaneously, work has become more efficient.

The Port of Helsinki is Finland’s leading general port for foreign trade, with supports the business life in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. Significant positive effects related to the economy and employment extend to the entire coutry, to well-being of the Finns.

Passenger traffic

Acknowledged West Terminal 2

The Finnish Constructional Steelwork Association named the Port of Helsinki’s West Terminal 2 as The Steel Structure of the Year 2017. ‘The sculptural and clearly defined building provides an excellent first impression to those arriving in Finland for the first time. The designers’ extensive experience in designing terminal buildings is reflected in a positive manner in the functionality and architectural clarity of the building,’ assessed the award jury.
West Terminal 2 won the interior lighting category of the Finnish Lighting Award 2017. According to the competition jury, West Terminal 2 is a good example of a combination of architecture, functionality, and lighting.
The West Terminal 2 project also made it to the finals of the 2017 RIL Award, granted by the Finnish Association of Civil Engineers, finishing in shared second place with the Parliament House renovation project.
West Terminal 2 was awarded the City of Helsinki Council on Disability’s annual recognition for well-implemented accessibility.
